“When people look at my paintings I want them to stop in their tracks and take a good long look at what they are sensing through their eyes and hearts. My paintings carry the inter-relationship of nature’s natural spirit, with the seasonal pastime of humans and animals. I love to paint because it helps me pour out the passion that I hold for all living things. I certainly hope that my images conquer the objective.”

Laird Goulet in studio
Laird's unique and vibrant painting style reflects the spiritual and artistic imprints that have been inherently transferred to him by his Kokums (Grandmothers). Laird uses the power of dots to best capture the floral beadwork patterns and rich birch bark biting imprints that his Kokums had mastered before him.

He is conscious of the importance of balance and the four directions. His paintings pay homage to the subsistence lifestyle of his Cree Moshums (Grandfathers).
Hunting, trapping and fishing are common images used. Laird also enjoys painting the daily chores, collecting firewood, sawing logs and berry picking.

Laird has a great affinity for animals, the plant world and all living things. He has an almost uncanny ability to visualize life from their viewpoint. His use of vibrant colour is influenced by his love of nature.
