He is conscious of the importance of
balance and the four directions. His paintings pay homage
to the subsistence lifestyle of his Cree Moshums
(Grandfathers).
Hunting, trapping and fishing are common images used. Laird
also enjoys painting the daily chores, collecting firewood,
sawing logs and berry picking.
Laird has a great affinity for animals, the plant world and
all living things. He has an almost uncanny ability to
visualize life from their viewpoint. His use of vibrant
colour is influenced by his love of nature.
